A 5-volume manga by CLAMP, this series was turned into a 26-episode anime (which is pretty different from the manga, by the way!). While it's technically a shounen series because the manga was published in a shounen magazine, the central character is female and the story has cross-gender appeal. The main character, Suzuhara Misaki, has come to live with her aunt in Tokyo. When she arrives, she is fascinated by a televised fight between two dolls--"angels" which are controlled by an ordinary person called a "deus". Even someone as short and small her can be victorious in Angelic Layer! And so her journey begins... [ Review @ Anime Appetizers ]
